Manchester United have started contact with the agent of Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt over a transfer this summer.

De Ligt is one of Manchester United’s options for the centre-back position that manager Erik ten Hag wants to strengthen the team after releasing Raphael Varane, whose contract expires, from the team.

Yesterday, further evidence emerged suggesting that De Ligt’s transfer to United could be closer than one thinks as reports suggested that the player already told the Bavarian club that he wants to leave.
This is allegedly due to the fact that De Ligt did not enjoy life under manager Thomas Tuchel. What’s more, the German club appears set to sign Hiroki Ito, as well as Jonathan Tah, suggesting the Dutch international could struggle to get more game time next season.
